Visual impairment and cognitive decline Note: An Official Proposal has not been Submitted to NACC. Lead Investigator: Diane Zheng Institution : University of Miami E-Mail : dzheng@med.miami.edu Proposal ID : 1557 Proposal Description: Aim 1: To test the hypothesis that visual impairment is associated with cognitive decline and to examine the effect of visual impairments on the pace of the cognitive decline. Aim 2: To examine whether visual impairment influences the cognitive functioning of older adults through the pathway of brain neurodegeneration. Whether visual impairment is associated with brain structure change is unknown. We hypothesized that visual impairment is associated with brain structure change and greater brain volumetric declines in older adults.
